I’m not even vegan; I’m not even vegetarian, but it still drives me bonkers how the new trend on tumblr is arguing that animal based agriculture is an environmental positive. It is not!  Overgrazing from sheep is one of the oldest human-caused environmental problems! The amount of food and water wasted to raise cows and pigs is extraordinary in a climate crisis and it’s utterly bullshit to reference the sustainability of e.g., Masai cattle herding to justify eating a feed lot burger.

No ethical consumption under capitalism, eat your burger, but dairyisntscary  (in particular as one egregious example) is a either a social media astroturf operation or a dumb fuck who is acting like an unpaid astroturf operation…who actively advocates against any political action to make animal agriculture more humane and/or less environmentally harmful!

XDD social media astroturf operation…. yup that’s me

When I was a kid and I wanted to wear the brand name shirts that the other cool kids wore, my mom would say to me, “If you’re going to wear a company’s logo on your body then that company should be paying you.”

And I’d like to give that advice to bloggers who, for free,  push anti-regulatory, anti-labor and anti-environmental policy positions.  They should be paying you my friend, perhaps at least as much as the slaughterhouse workers who you insist experience no more labor exploitation or psychological harm than any other job.

WTF.

I’m not a vegetarian either, but defending the meat industry for free is TOTALLY FUCKING NUTS. It’s a hellish industry. I live in an area full of meat processing facilities that mainly employ refugees, simply because the work is so fucking awful no one else will do it. They’re always losing their fingers in the machines, meanwhile the industry lobbies hard to strip away what little safety protections they have.

The only way to have ecologically safe, sustainable industrial meat production (as opposed to small scale family farming) is to grow that shit in vats. I’m hoping technology advances soon enough to get that done, because I really like both eating meat and having a nice planet.

ive been SAYING this but growing up gay is a traumatic experience in and of itself

like not that anyone asked BUT to expand on this but despite the obvious interactions with homophobia that every gay person is bound to encounter its just like…your family/even some close friends never ~truly~ know who you are or what you’re interested in because the Gay Experience is about protecting your identity/interests before everything else so by the time you grow up even your parents - no matter how accepting they think they are - have absolutely no inkling about who you really are as a person and thats just a super lonely and exhausting way to exist within a family or a social circle broe!
